Hand-cast art glass vs. molded glass vs. resin
Three materials look similar in a thumbnail — but live very differently on your wall. Here's how our hand-cast art glass compares.
| Our Hand-Cast Art Glass | Molded / Pressed Glass | Resin / Acrylic Imitation | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it's made | Hand-cast & shaped by artisans, one piece at a time | Machine-pressed in a fixed mold, mass-produced | Liquid resin poured into a mold, mass-produced |
| Texture & pattern | Unique crackle texture — no two tubes alike | Identical, repeating pattern on every unit | Flat, "printed-on" look; texture feels superficial |
| Light quality | Deep, layered glow; light refracts through real glass | Even but flat; little depth or movement | Dull, slightly cloudy; can look plasticky when lit |
| Feel & weight | Substantial, cool, solid in the hand | Solid but uniform | Noticeably light, warm, hollow-feeling |
| Color over time | Color is in the glass — won't fade or yellow | Stable color | Can yellow or cloud with heat & UV over time |
| Heat tolerance | High — glass handles bulb heat well | High | Lower — can warp or discolor near heat |
| Character | A one-of-a-kind work of glass art | A functional, uniform fixture | A budget look-alike |
The takeaway: hand-cast art glass costs more to make, but it's the only one that gives you genuine depth of light, individual character, and lasting color — the qualities that make a fixture feel like art rather than hardware.
One craft, many shapes
Every piece begins the same way — molten glass, hand-cast and shaped by our artisans. From that single craft comes a whole family of forms, each catching and releasing light in its own way.

How to spot genuine art glass
Online photos can make resin and glass look alike. Here's how to tell the difference once it's in your home — every point below describes our fixtures.
Pick it up
Real glass is cool and substantial. Resin feels warm, light, and hollow. Our tubes have real weight — many customers say the heavy box was their first clue it's genuine.
Look at the texture
Hand-cast crackle texture has true depth you can feel with a fingertip. Resin texture looks like it's printed on a flat surface.
Turn on the light
Glass refracts light into a layered, moving glow. Resin tends to look flat, dull, or slightly cloudy when lit.
Compare two pieces
No two hand-cast tubes are exactly identical. If every piece looks machine-perfect and matched, it's molded — not artisan glass.
Our promise: every fixture is genuine hand-cast art glass. Slight variation between pieces isn't a flaw — it's proof it was made by hand.
Green glass, arm by arm
The Green Calyx Art Glass Chandelier carries six or eight curved glass arms out from a stacked glass column, each arm ending in a flower-shaped cup that holds its own bulb.
Green runs all the way through the glass, so the colour deepens where the arms thicken and lightens where the light passes straight through. Lit, the cups glow one by one rather than as a single flat sheet of light.
Switched off in daylight it still holds the eye: a sculptural green form against a plain ceiling.

Eight colours, or one of your own
The same silhouette is made in eight glass colours, and the colour is only the start: arm count, cup shape and finish can all be built to your preference. Treat the swatches as a guide — glass always shifts with the light behind it.

Six lights, or eight
Both versions hang 19.7″ tall on a chain we cut to your ceiling. The only question is width: match the fixture to the surface below it, then set the drop.

-
Match the width
Aim for a fixture roughly half to two thirds the width of the table below it.
-
Set the drop
Leave 30–36″ between the tabletop and the bottom of the glass, so nobody looks through it across the table.
-
Mind walkways
Anywhere people pass underneath, keep at least 7 ft of clear floor below the glass.
-
Tall ceilings
Add roughly 3″ of extra drop for every foot of ceiling above 8 ft; tell us your height and we set the chain.

The light that starts the evening
You switch it on before the first guest arrives, and the room stops being a room with a table in it. Six or eight small bulbs sit inside green glass cups, and the ceiling above them picks up the colour.
Because the cups face upward, light lifts into the ceiling and comes back down soft. No one sits under a spotlight, nothing glares off the plates, and the faces across the table stay lit.
It works just as well empty. In daylight the green reads as a sculpture over the table — the reason people look up when they walk in.
-
6 pm
The table is set
Switch it on while you lay the table; the green warms the whole room before anyone sits down.
-
8 pm
Dinner runs long
Even light across the table and nothing bouncing off the plates, so nobody shifts their chair to see past it.
-
10 pm
Coffee and talk
Dim it halfway from the wall and the room draws in close around the table.
-
11 pm
Last one out
Switched off, it still holds the ceiling: a green silhouette over an empty table.
Keeping the glass clear
Glass asks for very little: a dry cloth, the power off, and a hand on the frame rather than on the glass.
-
Monthly
Dust the glass
Power off, bulbs cool, then a soft dry microfibre cloth over each arm and cup.
-
When marked
Wipe and dry
For fingerprints, a barely damp cloth, dried straight away so no water sits in the texture.
-
Bulb changes
Hold the frame
Support the frame rather than the glass, and never twist a glass cup to loosen a bulb.
-
Never
Sprays and abrasives
No ammonia cleaner sprayed onto the fixture, no scouring pads, nothing wet near the wiring.
Dust dulls glass faster than anything else — a thin film takes the sparkle out long before the bulbs age.

Before you order
Size, hanging height, bulbs and installation.
01Which size should I choose?
Six lights (27.6″) suits tables and islands up to about 60″; eight lights (33.5″) suits 60–84″.
02How high should it hang?
Leave 30–36″ between the tabletop and the bottom of the glass, and at least 7 ft of clear floor anywhere people walk.
03Can the chain be shortened or lengthened?
Yes. Tell us your ceiling height and we set the chain before the piece ships.
04Is the glass real glass?
Yes. Each arm and cup is art glass with the colour set into the glass body, carried on a metal frame.
05What bulbs does it take?
E14 bulbs, one per arm, so six or eight in total. A warm white LED around 2700K suits it best.
06Can I dim it?
Yes, with an LED-compatible wall dimmer and dimmable bulbs, or with E14 smart bulbs.
07Does it need an electrician?
Yes. It is hardwired to a ceiling junction box, so it is not a plug-in fixture.
08Can I get it in another colour?
Eight glass colours are available, and we can match a colour of your own to order.
09Will the green fade over time?
No. The colour is inside the glass rather than a coating, so bulb heat and daylight will not wash it out.
10How do I clean it?
Switch the power off, let the bulbs cool, then dust the arms with a soft dry cloth. No sprays.
11What is your return policy?
You can request a return within 30 days of delivery; see our refund policy for details.
12Is it suitable over a kitchen island?
Yes, with the same 30–36″ drop; grease and steam mean it will need dusting a little more often.
Send us your table size and ceiling height — we will tell you which version fits.
