Tao Lounge Chair
Design by Orlandini Design Manufactured by True DesignEffortless Comfort, Rooted in Timeless Design
The TAO Lounge chair expands the TAO family with a lower, more relaxed posture—bringing the same minimalist spirit into the world of laid-back comfort. Its name still reflects the quiet simplicity at the core of the project, now reimagined for a more leisurely pace.
At the heart of the design is the signature T-shaped backrest support—a visual and structural feature that gives TAO its distinctive character. Drawing from the timeless lines of mid-century classics, the TAO Lounge pays homage to the elegance of 1950s and ’60s design, evoking familiar forms from vintage school chairs, Nordic cafés, and iconic Eames pieces—reinterpreted with a contemporary, minimalist sensibility.
Available in both molded plywood and plush upholstered versions, the TAO Lounge balances warm materiality with clean, architectural lines. The frame’s visual lightness is achieved through a refined construction that allows the seat and back to seemingly float—free of visible screws or rivets—emphasizing purity of form and structural clarity.
Precision-crafted die-cast aluminum connectors anchor the backrest and provide a subtle signature detail, combining strength with a soft touch. TAO Lounge is both approachable and refined—a modern lounge chair designed to bring quiet sophistication and comfort to residential interiors, boutique lounges, and curated public spaces.

“What I’ve always heard from designers, the good ones, is that a chair must be nice viewed from behind” First of all, because in most cases the chairs are around a table, so the part that is visible is indeed the back
The second reason, more of a design and technical nature is that the fixing of the backrest to the structure has always been one of the most difficult knots to untie in the design of a chair.
